The Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) has thanked the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Dr. Dennis Otuaro, CEO of Century Group, Mr. Ken Etete, and the Political Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor for supporting the just-concluded Ijaw media conference/annual dialogue 2024.
The media entrepreneurs also appreciated Annkio Briggs, HRM God’spower Oporomor, Elder Asu Beks, Alabo Nengi James, Anthony George Ikoli (SAN), Hon. Spencer Okpoye, Presley Prebor, Comrade Joseph Evah, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, and others for making the event a success.
The Ijaw Media Conference which was aimed at raising awareness to demand for economic, environmental, and political justice for Ijaws and Niger Delta following endless marginalisation was held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital.
While giving his welcome address at the event, the group’s President, Austin Ozobo, noted that Ijaw people who continued to bear the burden of the nation’s oil wealth are increasingly seeking greater autonomy and control over their natural resources.
He stated that the persistent marginalisation and oppression of the Niger Delta people by the Nigerian Government had led to a growing demand for resource control and self-determination.
The conference called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders to take immediate action to address the menace of environmental degradation, economic marginalization, and political exclusion facing the Niger Delta region.
