HRH Samuel Sambo, the Amadabo of Sambo-Ama in Twon Brass Kingdom, Bayelsa State, on Tuesday launched the Sambo-Ama Youth Empowerment Scheme to his subjects.
According to the monarch, the aim of the scheme is to provide funding for youths of Sambo-Ama who have feasible business ideas.
Sambo said he is donating N10m as a startup fund through his nonprofit organization, Sambo Foundation, for the commencement of the empowerment programme.
He expressed that as the initiative progresses, he anticipates support from the government, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals.
Sambo also appointed Dr. Daniel Charles, the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency 1 in the state legislative arm, to head the committee in charge of the scheme.
Other members include Mr. Kenneth Paul, Mr. Tonwaprinyo Olali, Mr. Bereopaga Shedrack, Mrs. Blessing Abraham, and Mrs. Douglas Doris.
The committee is expected to ensure the adequate implementation and supervision of the programme.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Charles thanked the traditional ruler for the initiative, while emphasizing the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to the development of any society.
The lawmaker encouraged interested youths to come up with proposals that are sustainable.
