Election losers harrasing our staff on social media–INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised concerns over the growing number of social media attacks on its officials by individuals dissatisfied with election outcomes.

The commission stated that the harassment of its staff is being fueled by fake news circulating on social media.

Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, expressed these concerns during a press briefing on the upcoming Edo and Ondo states governorship elections in Abuja.

He said that some individuals unhappy with recent election results have resorted to harassing and intimidating INEC officials online.

He explained that his social media accounts were locked at times due to constant harassment and noted that the abuse is often motivated by political leaders’ comments, Guardian reports.

Despite these challenges, INEC remains committed to voter education and hopes that people will eventually understand the situation.
