There was a thrilling atmosphere at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa on Friday as Bayelsa United triumphed over Akwa United to secure a spot in the finals of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-Season Tournament scheduled for Sunday, 18th August, 2024.
The Prosperity Boys who won by a lone goal are currently leading their group with six points, having won two matches and lost their first match.
The team, which has employed a direct and physical style since the tournament began, has been using its pace and power to overwhelm opponents.
In his remarks after the match, the team’s coach, Ladan Bosso, noted that “our direct approach is paying off, but we need to work on our defensive shape.”
Speaking with our reporter after the match, a backroom staff member of Akwa United, Idongiset Etim, commended the organizers of the tournament for the exposure it has given the team.
Etim, who appreciated Bayelsans for the “hospitality, peace, and security witnessed in the state since we arrived,” also expressed satisfaction with the tournament so far.
