Bayelsa United, on Tuesday, recorded their first victory in the ongoing Governor Douye Diri pre-season tournament against Abia Warriors with a 2—1 scoreline.
With the win, the Prosperity Boys remain in contention to win the maiden pre-season competition as the team’s chances of advancing from the group stage becomes feasible after losing their first match of the tournament against Sunshine Stars FC of Akure.
After two games each, Bayelsa United currently sit second in group A with 3 points, just a point behind Akwa United.
Whereas, the third is occupied by Sunshine Stars FC with 3 points with Abia United currently bottom of the log with 1 point.
According to sources close to Bayelsa United, the win is a testament to the team’s potential and coach Ladan Bosso’s strategic guidance.

Bayelsa United will have to avoid defeat in their last group stage game against Akwa United to be able to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
A win will send them top of the table as well as qualify them to be in the finals.
