President of the Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council (OBYC), Comr. Johnny S. Jonathan, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for promptly launching the youth internship scheme to engage 10,000 youths from the region.
NDDC had, last week, unveiled the scheme which promises to improve the skills of youths, with each beneficiary to get a N50,000 monthly stipend.
On Monday, the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, officially launched the scheme at J’s Signature Hotel in Port Harcourt, marking the beginning of the initiative.
Jonathan, in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, thanked Ogbuku for launching the scheme a week after its unveiling.
The youth leader expressed confidence that the scheme will not only improve the livelihood of the beneficiaries but will also give them a sense of belonging.
He therefore urged Niger Delta youths especially those from Ogbia Kingdom in Bayelsa State to register via https://www.nyis.nddc.gov.ng and benefit from the programme, assuring that the process will be transparent for all applicants.
Jonathan who doubles as Chairman of the Bayelsa State Local Government Youth Presidents Forum (BSLGYPF) also hailed Ogbuku’s impact in Ogbia Kingdom, his homeland.
According to him, Ogbuku is rapidly transforming the Niger Delta region “with his people-driven projects and programmes geared toward improving the living standard of Niger Deltans and sustaining the prevailing peace in the oil-rich region.”
According to Jonathan, “For the first time since its establishment, the people of the Niger Delta are greatly feeling the impact of NDDC due to Ogbuku’s love for the people of the region.”
Describing Ogbuku as a big inspiration, Jonathan admitted that the NDDC boss is inspiring Ogbia youths with his transformational leadership, which he said is being applauded by all and sundry.
“We immensely thank President Bola Tinubu for giving Ogbuku the rare chance to revive and make a lasting difference in the Niger Delta through the NDDC,” he stated.
