IYC Central Zone kicks against today’s planned protest, calls for dialogue

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone has reaffirmed its support of the position of Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro and other Niger Delta leaders against today’s planned protest by some groups in the region.

The Comr. Ineife Perekosufa-led IYC Central Zone believes that Niger Delta is the most peaceful region in the entire federation, therefore “rejects any form of protest that may jeopardise the peace and security currently being enjoyed in the region.”

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Comr. Ginah Williams Ikio, IYC Central Zone emphasized the need for unity and collaboration among the various groups in the Niger Delta region.

The group argued that the oil-rich region has made significant progress in terms of development and improved infrastructure over the years, all of which have contributed to maintaining peace and stability.

IYC, in the statement, also reiterated the importance of dialogue and engagement as ways to address grievances instead of resorting to any form of protest.

The youth group equally kicked against “any form of protest by faceless groups in the region which is destabilizing and counterproductive the growth of the Niger Delta.

“The Ijaw Youth Council Central Zone stands firmly by General Tompolo and Dr. Dennis Otuaro and the stance of our National President, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri, against the planned protest in the Niger Delta region as we call for peaceful dialogue…”

The group urged all stakeholders to work together towards the region’s continued development and prosperity.
