Bayelsa commissioner, Belemote, visits family of slain youth, sues for peace

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Community Development, Hon. Alfred Belemote Watson, has commiserated with the family of late Mr. Ayebakuro Jokora over his tragic death.

Jokora was gruesomely killed by three hoodlums while sleeping on the 4th of July by three hoodlums.

On Friday, the 12th of July, Belemote who hails from Okpoama kingdom together with his entourage on behalf of the Bayelsa state government paid a visit to the community and equally the family of the deceased to commiserate with them over the unfortunate incident.

Speaking during the visit, Belemote condemned the wicked act and stressed the need for the Police to apprehend and prosecute the murderers of the deceased.

The commissioner also praised the family of the deceased for not taking laws into their hands in pursuing justice.

He equally met with the youth and chiefs of Okpoama, thanking them for their peaceful disposition in handling the situation.

He added that Okpoama Kingdom is known for its peace as well as its loving and accommodating people, thus it is only fitting that they acted in the manner they did regarding the incident.

The commissioner further expressed the governor’s commitment to peace and development in the state, condemning any act of violence, especially when there is life involved.

He called on the community leaders, youths, elders and the good people of Bayelsa State to support the governor Douye Diri-led administration to bring prosperity and development to the state.

Responding, the Okpoama youth President, Engr. Seiyefa Felix Ben-Basuo represented by his vice Mr. Inengibofa Alfred Ayebaesin appreciated Belemote and the Bayelsa state government for making out time to visit the community and the family of the deceased.

He stressed that the commissioner is a son of the soil and that his visit meant a lot to the family of the deceased and the community.

Also speaking, Chief Inenyo Yousuo-Ogbulu, a Chief from Osainta family—the family of the deceased—was full of praise for the Commissioner and the government for the gesture.

He also appreciated the commissioner for his words of advice to the community on the need to foster peace and togetherness especially in difficult times.

Meanwhile, two out of the three suspects have been apprehended and now in police custody, with the police closing on the remaining suspect who is on the run.

The Commissioner was accompanied by Chief Inenyo Yousuo -Ogbulu, Mr. Oworibo Ologo, Mr. Nadu Okenema (former Youth President) including some of his aides amongst others.

Notable personalities who received the Commissioner were the Chairman, Okpoama Kingdom Council of Chiefs, High Chief Paul Briggs Omubo-Suobagha, Chief Ebianga Ambule-Daufa, Chief Diepreye Lucky Inengibofa-Asapurabo, Chief A.S.k Senagha, and Chief Tomogha -Erewalson.
