Warri-Itakpe train service to resume operations Monday, says Railway body

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says the Warri-Itakpe train service will resume operations on Monday.

According to the Daily Post, the NRC announced the service resumption in a statement on Sunday, signed by Yakub Mahmood, its deputy director of public relations.

The development, the corporation said, follows the temporary suspension of train operations along the route due to a derailment at Abraka railway station.

“The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) hereby informs the general public especially our valued passengers that the train services (WITS) will resume operation on Monday 8 July 2024, after temporary suspension of train operations along the route as result of train derailment at Abraka Railway station,” the statement reads.

He said all travellers can book their boarding tickets online starting from July 7 or in person (at the stations) from July 8.

The NRC expressed regret for “any inconvenience caused to the passengers by the derailment and temporary suspension of the train service”.

On July 5, the NRC suspended the Warri-Itakpe rail service after a train derailed on July 4.

The train was travelling from Itakpe in Kogi to Ujevwu in Delta when the incident occurred at about 7.15 pm.
