Asanakpo’s effective management of Bayelsa state volunteers in combating crime, ensuring peace

The Bayelsa state volunteers under the competent leadership of High Chief Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo, has shown great commitment and tremendous performance in combating crime, and protecting lives and property of the citizenry, most especially in Yenagoa metropolis.

Notably, the activities of Bayelsa volunteers, Operation Doo-Akpo, vigilante services and waterways security, operates under a Chief security coordinator, Bayelsa Community Safety Corps, Brig. Gen. Eric Angaye (rtd), with the primary objective of addressing security challenges in the state.

Over the years, the aforementioned state-owned security outfits in collaboration with the conventional security agencies, has made laudable contributions in combating crime and helping to curb criminality in the oil rich state.

Upon assumption of office, the Coordinator of Bayelsa State Volunteers, Chief Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo, a man with wisdom driven with passion for service, held several meetings with leaders of various warring groups to install normalcy and peace in the state; a significant milestone he achieved to the admiration of many.

To further state, the bold step of the state-owned security outfit helmsman, reduced crime rate drastically in the state, with the cooperation of many voluntarily denounced membership from the youth groups they belong in the state.

Chief Asanakpo also used his office to facilitate peace meetings with heads of various youth groups in the state, with the aim of putting to an end the incessant killings of rival youths group members, where peace accords were signed by main actors to maintain a lasting peace.

After several attempt to broker peace with security measures undertaken and resources put into addressing those grey challenges, Chief Lucky Asanakpo and his team in moving forward, identified various hideouts through intelligent surveillance and enroute patrols, and telephone contacts made available for public complaints.

Also, a legal department with composition of few competent lawyers was also set up in accordance to the law guiding the organization to follow up cases of theft, murder and other crimes against society.

Subsequently, offenders of the peace deal and other related cases were followed up, series of arrest were made on daily basis and the culprits were immediately transfered to the law enforcement agency, Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa Command for further investigation and prosecution. To set the record, a good number of them are awaiting trial and others sent to Okaka Prison.

It will interest the larger public to note that the once dreaded Etegwe/Tombia roundabout and Swali axis in Yenagoa the state capital, are now a safe heaven for business-owners, commuters and pedestrians.

This stride underscored the People’s Governor, Senator Douye Diri administration’s mantra of prosperity, where Bayelsans and other residents would live in harmony and work without fear due to crime. Interestingly, the Governor of Bayelsa State placed maximum priority in the lives of every citizens and it is evident in his uncommon leadership style.

This remarkable achievement will leave behind indelible mark in the heart of many and High Chief Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo, deserves commendations for his doggedness, sacrifices and the unwavering commitment in ensuring there is relative peace in the streets of Yenagoa and its environ.

Remarkably, Bayelsa State is ranked amongst the most peaceful States in Nigeria; and this is in conformity with the Governor Douye Diri’s prosperity administration’s unwavering resolve for a peaceful coexistence devoid of political party sentiment.
