We are not aware of Finidi’s resignation—NFF breaks silence

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has stated that he is not aware of Super Eagles coach Finidi George’s resignation, despite online reports suggesting otherwise.

Various media houses reported early Saturday that Finidi who has been in charge for just two games since taking over in April, has resigned.

This development comes on the heels of the NFF’s announcement to appoint an “expatriate technical adviser” for the Eagles, following their disappointing performances in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

The Super Eagles have struggled in their recent outings, managing only three points from a possible 12 and sitting fifth in the six-team Group C.

This has put their qualification hopes for the World Cup in jeopardy, drawing criticism from Nigerian football fans still reeling from the team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Reports suggest that Finidi is upset over the NFF leadership’s meeting with the sports minister, which failed to address players’ late arrival at camp and the lack of support for the team in their match against Benin Republic.

Despite these reports, Gusau claims he has not been informed of Finidi’s resignation.

“Not yet aware,” he replied to a WhatsApp message sent to him.
