NBA Yenagoa lines up activities to commemorate its 2024 law week

Hon. Justice Peter O. Affen JCA, a jurist of great intellect and industry, would be one of the resource persons at the plenary session of the 2024 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association Yenagoa Branch scheduled to commence on 22nd June, 2024.

The law week will start with a 10km road walk, and climax on 30th June, 2024 with a thanksgiving service.

Mangrovepen.ng gathered that the programme is tagged “The Legal Profession in a time of socio-economic uncertainty.”

The keynote address for the law week which would be delivered by Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya, JSC, CON, will seek to amongst other things open new vistas of ways legal practitioners and the legal profession can weather the storm in cushioning the impact of the socio-economic issues plaguing our country at this time.

The law week promises to be an illuminating time for legal practitioners and the legal profession.

In the course of the law week, there would also be a plenary session of discussants comprising of top jurists and legal practitioners who have significantly distinguished themselves, and added unassailable capital and excellence to the growth of the legal profession in Nigeria.

The panel of discussants will extensively discuss the topic, “Socio-economic uncertainty of legal practice in Nigeria: Law in the global economy.”

No doubt this topic was selected in view of the fact that the socio-economic survival of the legal profession will guarantee the socio-economic survival of the country, as it is often said, “Law is a tool for social engineering and nation-building, and it is the fabric that binds fractured segments of society together.”

In keeping up with one of the core agenda of the Somina Johnbull-led administration, which is the health and wellness of lawyers of the Branch, the law week would commence with a 10km Road Walk.

At the opening ceremony of the law week, there would also be a session on the topic, “Health and Wellness of the Nigerian Lawyer,” which would be delivered by Dr. James Enimi Omietimi, the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.

On Saturday 29th June, 2024, there would be general medical examination of lawyers of the Branch by a team of expert medical personnel.

There would be a legal clinic to the community of Persons with Disability to fraternize with them, ascertain their needs, offer solutions and educate them about their rights.

One of the major highlights of the week-long programme would be our annual law dinner, and this year’s dinner would be a top-scale event; a well-manured ground for networking opportunities, knowledge-sharing and getting up close and personal with the egg-heads of the legal profession and political leaders of repute.

The Hangout would comprise of games, karaoke, singing, dancing and just relaxing and having fun.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is part of an ensemble cast as the Special Guest of Honour.

There would also be attendance by Justices of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, Judges of State and Federal High Courts, critically acclaimed political leaders, opinion leaders, captains of industry and so many other premium societal figures.
