Encomium as University of Africa organises inter-departmental games

The Director of Sports in the Student Union (SUG)of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua Bayelsa State, Comr. Tamarauebi Dickson has thanked the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma for the approval of the ongoing 2024 inter-departmental games.

He said the competition which has been a success so far is bringing out the best in students in both academic and extracurricular activities.

Dickson also lauded the efforts of seasoned sports enthusiast, Coach Ada Gwegwe, for being instrumental in the mooth running of the games.

He admitted that the students of the university are pleased with the school management for their commitment to extracurricular activities.

The 2024 inter-departmental games in the University have so far been competitive and exciting as talents have emerged from various departments.

Kicking off the games, the Political Science Department defeated the Theater Art Department in two sets 21-11 and 21-19 to emerge champions of the Badminton competition.

However, so far, the Department of Computer Science has been the most impressive and as well proven to be the department to beat.

Computer Science won their first sport of the games after clinching the two categories of the chess competition.

They followed it up with a time-limit win to claim the trophy in the Monopoly games defeating the Department of Agricultural Science, Mass Communication, and Accounting in the process.

Computer Science made it a hat-trick of victories after they emerged champions of the Scrabble competition with a 205 – 196 win over Political Science.

In the group stage of the Football category of the games, Agricultural Science defeated the History Department 4-0 while Political Science played out a 1-1 draw against the host community, Toru-Orua, while the Educational Department held the impressive Computer Science to a 1-1 draw.

Upcoming fixtures in the football games will see the Department of Business Administration square up against Political Science while Mass Communications will play the very determined Department of Micro Biology.

Meanwhile, Basketball and Volleyball games will commence later today, the 21st of March at the volleyball sand field and Civic Center respectively.
