A prominent monarch in the Niger Delta, HRH Samuel Sambo, has beckoned on the people of the oil-rich region to shun acts that will lead to the distortion of peace in their communities.
He called for the application of diplomacy in any communal dispute as a means to forestall crises that may lead to the loss of lives and property.
Sambo, who is the Amadabo of Sambo-Ama in Twon Brass Kingdom of Bayelsa State, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday,
The statement advised community stakeholders to resolve any issue that may arise in their respective domains.
Sambo’s advice is coming on the heels of the recent mindless killing of some military officers in Okuama community in Delta State.
It will be recalled that no fewer than 17 military personnel were killed while responding to a distress call during a clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state on Thursday 14 March 2024.
The monarch advised that “We should not, because of land disputes, resort to maiming one another. The courts are there to dispense justice if we cannot settle our differences.uu”
Sambo who is a member of the Local Implementation Committee of the National Philanthropic Office (NPC) strongly condemned the killings as well as condoled with the Nigerian military and families of the departed soldiers.
He also urged the military to remain professional in their ongoing efforts to fish out perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book.
The monarch advised the military to avoid the ugly incidents that played out in Odi and Zaki Biam in Bayelsa and Benue States respectively where innocent civilians were killed in the onslaught against some gunmen.
