Yenagoa—The Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as false and misleading publications making the rounds on social media that the postponement of the official flag-off of the Bayelsa governorship campaign scheduled for Saturday 14th October was due to the recent judgment of a Federal High Court, disqualifying its candidate from contesting the November poll.
The APC also denied stories insinuating that the state chapter of the party is cash-strapped hence looking for potential financiers for its campaign.
In a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Perry Tukuwei on Sunday, the APC urged Bayelsans to disregard the publications whose intent it said is to create fear and mislead the public.
The party disclosed that it has filed an appeal of the High Court judgment at the appellate court and also prayed a stay of execution well within the time frame permitted by law to allow it to continue its campaign ahead of the election.
The party also noted that the reason for the postponement of the flag-off was due to the ‘exigencies of the Office of the President’ who it said was billed to be in attendance during the event.
The statement partly reads:
“To set the records straight, the Party through its lawyers have filed an appeal to the judgment at the appellate court as well as a stay of execution well within the time frame permitted by law.
“This means every campaign activity is ongoing with no break whatsoever as evident in the resounding successes recorded during the recent campaign activities in Agbere, Ebedebiri, Sagbama Town, Peretorugbene, Toru-Ndoro, Aghoro, Aleibiri, Ekeremor in Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
“The campaign activities will continue in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District with Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area and Southern Ijaw Local Government Area respectively as the next port of call from 17th October to 20th October 2023.
“Furthermore, the reason for the postponement of the official flag-off scheduled for Saturday 14th October 2023 was due to the exigencies of the Office of the President.
“To this end, a delegation comprising members of the National Working Committee of the APC led by the Chairman of the Bayelsa National Gubernatorial Campaign Council and Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency, Mohammad Inuwa Yahaya visited Bayelsa on Saturday 14th October 2023 with a strong commitment to ensuring the victory of Chief Timipre Sylva as the incoming Governor of Bayelsa State.
“In a chat with journalists during a live media chat aired on radio stations in Bayelsa, the chairman of the Bayelsa National Gubernatorial Campaign Council also reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be present at the official flag off at a date to be communicated soon.”
The APC expressed confidence that its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, will emerge victorious at the November 11 poll, urging its supporters to expect more campaign activities in the coming days.
