Yenagoa—Dr. Inenyo Esinte, a Yenagoa-based development activist has said for Nigeria and Africa in general to reap the gains of democracy, the country must look introspectively and take responsibility to build strong, reliable, and trustworthy democratic institutions that must be accountable to the populace.
Esinte stated this after attending the 2023 edition of democracy dialogue hosted by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital tagged: Making Democracy Work in Africa.”
Esinte who was a participant at the event, opined that the event is a call to reposition Africa on a path of democratic ethos and good governance as well as strengthen democracy and good governance in the continent.
Esinte enumerated the take-homes from the event as democracy as a tool for entrenching good leadership, leadership trust, accountability, human capital development, efficient utilization of resources, peace, and justice.
He commended the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) for organizing the 2023 edition in Yenagoa which has allowed young and emerging leaders to participate, learn, and interact with great and vast democratic advocates and intellectuals.
The event was well attended by participants from within and outside Nigeria including the former president of Nigeria and Chairman of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri, Prof. PLO Lumumba, Dr. Omar Touray (President, ECOWAS Commission) and Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
Others are Fatuomata Jallow Tambajang, Prof. Ibaba Samuel Ibaba, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse (Olu of Warri), Governor Godwin Obaseki, Amina Mohammed (Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations), among other dignitaries and participants.
