Yenagoa—The people of Ada-Ama in Twon Brass Kingdom of Bayelsa State, led by HRH David Serena-Dokubo Spiff (Ada IX) have honoured their illustrious son, Hon. Alabo Hanso Karika on his appointment as Chairman of Brass Local Government Council.
The event took place in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Friday.
Spiff expressed joy that one of his subjects is now piloting the affairs of Brass Area Council and believes that he will discharge his duties diligently to the delight of all.
He pointed out that Karika’s appointment “is not a personal achievement but an achievement for Twon Brass and the whole Brass LGA.”
Spiff, a former Secretary to the State Government, encouraged the Brass council boss “to always do the right thing at all times and instigate peace, unity and love” among the people of the area.
“Twon Brass particularly Ada-ama has always been known for peace and it is my prayer that God will endow you with the required wisdom to lead Brass LGA to an enviable destination,” the monarch added.
While speaking, the Chairman of the Twon Brass Kingdom Council of Chiefs, Chief Victor Sam-Ateki said it is God’s will for Hon. Karika to become Brass LGA Chairman.
He said: “The chairman had also contested and lost elections but he has not been an instigator of violence or even used politics to destroy the peaceful coexistence of his people, so everyone should take him as an example and be of good cheer.
“The position of the chairman is an envy of many but nobody should kill for it because it is God that gives power and God will only use men to actualize it.
“So I urge you all to support him, work with him, sell the ideas you have with him to foster the betterment of Brass LGA because politics is a means to better the lives of the people.”
He thanked all those that honoured the invitation of the monarch to celebrate the chairman.
Sam-Ateki, who is also Brass Caucus Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), poured encomiums on Governor Douye Diri for Hon. Karika’s appointment which he likened to putting a round peg into a round hole due to his competence.
He however urged the Brass chairman to follow the ideals of Diri, mount far-reaching projects and encourage peace across the LGA.
“My special honor goes to God who made all things beautiful in His own time.
“I never knew a day like this would come that I would be this honored,” said a thrilled Hon. Karika as he thanked his kinsmen for celebrating him.
He said his administration will ensure that “unalloyed peace is experienced in Brass LGA and for the dividends of democracy to be delivered to the people.”
He equally said that “considering his massive contribution to the development of Bayelsa State, I will make sure no stone will be left unturned in my local government to ensure the victory of the Governor.”
