Ex-student leader Ozu lauds management of Bayelsa loan board, urges FG to imitate Bayelsa model

Yenagoa—A former President of the National Union of Bayelsa State Students (NUBSS), Comr. Ozu Fredrick Important has hailed the Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board, Dr. Michael Amaegberi, and other members of the board for the effective management and prudent use of resources.

The ex-student leader in a statement in Yenagoa expressed that the scheme which at the outset was a subject of controversy has recorded tremendous success in recent times.

According to him, this is evident in the many testimonies of indigenous students, adding that the scheme has helped to pay the fees of over 7,000 beneficiaries.

“Though the idea may be maiden in this part of the world, it has been a major vehicle that has enhanced scholarship in the western world” he added.

He further urged the Federal Government to consult and engage Bayelsa State on its plans to roll out a National Students Loan Scheme, stressing that the state has competent hands who can replicate the model across Nigeria.

Mr. Important who is also the pioneer clerk of the Nigerian Students Parliament thanked Governor Douye Diri for reappointing Amaegberi for a second stint and for continuously making funds available for the scheme.

He added that the loan scheme has served as a palliative to cushion the economic realities faced by students at the time.
