Yenagoa—Special Assistant to Governor Douye Diri on New Media, Mr. John Domkpee has urged Chief Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Bayelsa gubernatorial election to pull out of the race “to avoid the most embarrassing defeat of his political career.”
He opined that the former minister of state for petroleum resources has lost popularity in Brass and Nembe Local Government Areas where he hails from.
This was contained in a statement sent to Mangrovepen.ng following a reported protest by some aggrieved members of the APC in Twon Brass, headquarters of Brass LGA in the state on Wednesday.
According to Domkpee, Bayelsans have rejected Sylva because he has nothing to offer them and has decided to vote for Governor Douye Diri.
While saying that Sylva should pull out of the governorship race and support Diri, Domkpee averred that Bayelsans will re-elect his principal whom he believes is making serious efforts to develop the state in his first stint in office.
The statement reads: “Sylva is losing popularity even in his domain because he failed to meaningfully attract the dividends of democracy to the people in his days as governor and minister of state.
“Today, the greatest opposition Sylva is facing is coming from the people of Brass and Nembe LGAs because they are tired of his leadership style. These are LGAs he hails from yet the people seem disenchanted.”
“Bayelsans know that Sylva has nothing significant to offer them and have decided to give Senator Douye Diri another four years based on his good performance, peaceful nature, and integrity.
“Chief Sylva should accept the ugly reality that Bayelsans don’t want him as governor again and pull out of the contest before he gets the most embarrassing defeat of his entire political career.”
“We respect him as a former governor and minister and do not wish him the kind of political embarrassment waiting for him because he will lose in all 8 local governments.
“Let him throw in the towel while he still can and support Governor Diri who is making serious efforts to develop and engender prosperity in Bayelsa.
“There is no space for Sylva in Creek Haven and the earlier he realizes this obvious fact the better for him and his few followers who cannot bring electoral victory to him.”
