Yenagoa—The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Oforji Oboku, as a big asset to the PDP family in the state.
The PDP which also felicitated the lawmaker on his electoral victory and subsequent inauguration into the 10th National Assembly made the commendation when members of the State Working Committee paid the lawmaker a congratulatory visit at his residence in Yenagoa on Tuesday.
Speaking during the visit, the PDP State Chairman represented by the State’s Secretary General, Hon. Gesiye Isowo, eulogized the personal character and attributes of the lawmaker which he said had endeared him to the people of the area.
He stated that the PDP got it right when it fielded Oforji as the party’s candidate for the Yelga/Kolga Federal constituency seat.
He assured that the PDP in Bayelsa will continue to work closely with the lawmaker and all other elected State and National Assembly lawmakers to bring home the dividends of democracy to the people.
Isowo however, tasked the newly-elected federal lawmaker to mobilize and support Governor Douye Diri’s re-election bid in the forthcoming Bayelsa governorship election.
While he further pointed out that the best time to prepare is now, he expressed confidence in Oforji’s active participation and leadership which he said would produce the desired victory for the Party in Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Areas.
In his response, Oforji expressed gratitude to the SWC for the visit, stating that the move is the first of its kind since the founding of PDP in the state, calling on the Party to keep it up.
He said the move is reminiscent of the progressive spirit that was prevalent during the early days of the PDP and advised other State chapters of the Party to borrow a leaf from Bayelsa PDP to bring back sanity and unity within its fold.
The lawmaker further assured that the people from both Yenagoa and Kolga LGAs would “give the PDP and Governor Douye Diri more than eighty 80% of their votes in the governorship elections.”
