Yenagoa—Senator Douye Diri of Bayelsa State today honoured ace journalist, Mr. Ovieteme George by performing the kick-off for a novelty football game to celebrate his recent national award.
Ovieteme, a Bayelsa-born journalist with Arise News, recently won the Reporter of the Year (Television) at the recent Nigerian Broadcasting Awards.
At the novelty game held at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex between Yenagoa All Stars and Kpansia All Stars, Governor Diri congratulated Ovieteme for the feat.
He said the honour by the Arise News Correspondent has brought a good image to Bayelsa State insisting that Ovieteme George remains a worthy ambassador of the State.
The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, also joined the governor to honour Mr. George, immediately after today’s weekly Prosperity Walk.
Meanwhile, the publisher of Mangrovepen.ng, Sam Dogitimi has thanked Governor Diri for celebrating Ovieteme whom he described as “a sterling journalist making Bayelsa and the entire Niger Delta proud.”
The Abuja-based media entrepreneur noted that Ovieteme has dedicated much of his life to telling the Niger Delta story in a unique, fascinating style, hence deserves the recognition he is getting.
Sam lauded the broadcaster for training and inspiring other media practitioners and prayed for divine strength and protection upon Ovieteme as he continues to amplify the Niger Delta story.
