I will continue to serve, do more for my constituents—says Bayelsa lawmaker

Hon. Dr. Daniel Charles

Brass—The lawmaker representing Brass Constituency I in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Charles has expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support during his first stint in office and for reelecting him for a second term.

The lawmaker in a statement released on Monday said judging from the support for his candidacy and the massive votes that ensured his retention in the last election, noted that he did well in his first tenure.

While he went on to list some of the projects he initiated during his first tenure, the lawmaker expressed thanks to God for enabling him and members of his team to serve his constituents.

He further promised to continue from where he stopped, assuring that he will continue to prioritize the interest of his people as he prepares to continue his legislative journey for another four years.

The statement reads thus:

“I will forever cherish this remarkable day marking the end of my first tenure in office and the beginning of another as a representative of the good, hospital people of Brass Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

“Judging from the support and relatively massive votes I got in the last election, including commendations from various
quarters, it will not be out of place to humbly say that my team and I did well in the elapsing first tenure.

“With the help of God, we facilitated the construction, rehabilitation, and extension of some concrete roads in communities across the constituency.

“Our industrious women were included in the scheme of things, as about 30 of them, selected from various wards, were trained and given N100,000 each to boost their small-scale businesses.

“We provided relief funds to last year’s flood victims and nominated several constituents to participate and benefit from the ongoing empowerment programmes of the Bayelsa State Government ably led by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri.

“We rehabilitated a bridge, fixed the rails of a landing jetty, and built a waiting house for marine workers and travellers while also organising the annual unity games for the sake of entertainment, sports promotion and cohesion.

“It is no secret that I love education and seekers of knowledge: a proclivity that may have been inspired by my late father who is reputed for having an unwavering love for education.

” I am naturally drawn to lovers of education; it was on this note that I gave bursaries and other educational support and also paid SSCE fees to countless students we could reach out to.

“The future of our communities greatly lies in the hands of the younger generation. However, this envisioned future may not be realized if we fail to give them a sound education, instill the right values in them and inspire our leaders of tomorrow to think creatively.

“Today, upon nomination, many of our brothers and sisters are holding key positions in the state government. I am glad our people are also playing active roles in Project Bayelsa and being appreciated for it, even as the Governor keeps supporting our initiatives to improve constituents and the communities.

“You may recall that I once raised a motion to end illegal fishing techniques reportedly being adopted by fisherfolks operating in our territory.

“Despite the obvious impediments, I am determined to continuously amplify the need to curb all hazardous fishing methods, erosion, sea piracy, and other issues affecting our lives and livelihood.

“I remain thankful to God for using me and members of my reliable team as vessels to serve and benefit the people of Brass Constituency 1 in the last few years. Similarly, I also owe enormous gratitude to constituents for standing by me thus far.

“Be rest assured that I will not dash our collective hopes and aspirations. I will continue to prioritize our interests as I embark on this new legislative journey on behalf of you all.

“I have been given another opportunity to serve and make an impact. It is not my desire to fail the people that have reposed confidence in me again. Ultimately, I do not wish to be found wanting when God calls me for stewardship on Judgment Day.

“I therefore pledge wholeheartedly to do more and lead with the fear of God; giving due respect to all constituents. My only request is that you once again give me your unalloyed support to attract more development and empowerment to our communities.

“Thank you and remain blessed.”
