…another batch of 20 students to get scholarship in June
Port Harcourt—Bayelsa traditional ruler and philanthropist, HRH Samuel Sambo has said nothing can take away the role of education in the advancement of society, urging young Nigerians to pursue education with reckless abandon.
In an interview with Mangrovepen.ng on Wednesday, Sambo said “education is a basic need and the right of every child; making it a responsibility for parents and guardians across the world to give their children or wards sound education.”
The monarch stressed that education helps the young mind to think critically and creatively and exhibit the right societal values.
“Young ones should take their studies seriously, especially when they have parents or guardians who are willing and able to train them through school.
“You gain useful knowledge and ideas and also learn the right values of society at schools. So effective education makes you a brilliant and skilled adult with the right behavioural pattern.”
Sambo, a paramount ruler of Sambo-Ama in Twon Brass Kingdom, further pointed out that “with the right education, youths can render valuable services to governments, private organizations and individuals to generate income for a living.
He particularly urged Bayelsa youths to pursue education and acquire relevant skills, saying such will be needed when most of the prospective critical investments of both the state and federal government come to life.
“There are so many investments coming to Brass and other parts of the state especially in the oil and gas sector. These gigantic projects would need sound youths with requisite skills for their operations and whatnot.
Bayelsa youths must therefore prepare themselves now through education and capacity building so they can be absorbed when these projects see the light of day,” Sambo urged.
Mangrovepen.ng recalls that the Bayelsa monarch recently gave N250,000 each to beneficiaries of his educational scholarship scheme.
The beneficiaries numbering up to twenty were issued bank cheques to pay their tuition and other fees for this year’s academic session.
Last year, the lucky students received the same amount as the first tranche, and have since been receiving N5,000 as monthly stipends.
It was gathered that another batch of 20 students from Bayelsa and Rivers States will be given bank cheques of N250,000 on or before June 2023.
