Yenagoa—The announcement of the signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the construction of a Trans-Niger Delta Rail Project to link all Niger Delta states by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), with Atlanta Global Resources, United States has brought excitement and hope amongst advocates of development in the Niger Delta.
A group, Professionals and Advocates of Niger Delta Development (PANDD), has commended the management of the NDDC led by Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku, for the project.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Yenagoa by its Chairman, Dr Inenyo Esinte, the group averred that the project will entrench palpable and visible development in the Niger Delta region, which the region has been deprived of, despite the immense resources allocated to the interventionist agency in the last decade
They stressed that “the Trans-Niger Delta Rail Line project is a deviation from the norm and routine of ill-conceived, non-people oriented, resources-wasting repetitive, un-impactful array of projects embarked upon by the Commission in previous years.”
The group which also lauded the NDDC for deploying the Public Private Partnership model in funding the project called on leaders and stakeholders in the Niger Delta to support the current management of the commission in their quest to reposition the region.
