The Youths Digest Campus Journalism Initiative, organizers of the annual Campus Journalism Awards, has called for submission of entries for the fifth edition.
Youths Digest Campus Journalism Initiative was launched in 2015 as a non-profit civic hub that promotes qualitative and independent-minded journalism that advances human rights, principles of inclusion, accountability and justice through youth engagement.
Youths Digest, while announcing the call for entries via its website on Saturday, said the award is geared towards encouraging campus journalists and promoting free and independent campus journalism.
According to Youths Digest, submission of entries for 2022 will run from October 1 to 31st, adding that entries must be original, and published or aired between January to October 2022.
A statement from Youth Digest reads: “For the 5th time, join us to celebrate journalism at its best on a stage that breeds and unleashes young professionals.
“The Campus Journalism Awards was initiated in 2018 by Youths Digest to recognize, annually, outstanding campus journalists who have made extraordinary contributions to the development of the practice in Nigeria.
“It’s an avenue where some of the brightest minds on Nigerian campuses come together to be celebrated and recognized for upholding and promoting qualitative journalism from our tertiary institutions.”
Youths Digest also noted that 15 categories are up for campus journalists to jostle for, and successful nominees will be shortlisted after all entries have gone through rigorous screening, stressing that entries must be from students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria and Nigeria bordering countries.
“There are 15 categories: Upcoming Writer, Entertainment Writer, Sports Writer, News Reporter, Gender Equality, Broadcaster, Photo-journalist, Pen Club, Author, Social Media Influencer, Investigative Journalist, Features Writer, Editor, Campus Magazine and Syndicated Writer; the Campus Journalist of the Year, who will be the overall winner, will also be crowned.
“Entries must be from students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria or Nigeria bordering countries either through associates, lecturers, press clubs and faculties. Students can also self-nominate. The entry must be original work published/aired between January 2022 and October 2022,” Youths Digest noted.
