Yenagoa—The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has felicitated Bayelsans and the government of Bayelsa state on the 26th anniversary of the state as well as the 62nd Independence anniversary of Nigeria.
The PDP in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Ebiye Ogoli on Saturday paid tribute to the founding fathers of Bayelsa state and expressed gratitude to past and present leaders who have so far contributed to the progress of the state.
The party lauded the incumbent governor, Douye Diri and described his “developmental projects” as bold steps which have spawned a sense of hope among Bayelsans.
The statement further appealed to Bayelsans to continue their support for the Diri-led government and the PDP.
The party also urged Nigerians to be optimistic, assuring that better days would come when the PDP takes over the reins of power in the country come 2023.
“In same token, we equally pay glowing tribute to the founding fathers of our dear Bayelsa state whose agitation and struggle over a long period of time eventually birthed a brand new state created for our people by the then Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha on the 1st of October, 1996.
“We salute the uncommon courage, sacrifice, and focused drive put up by these founding fathers and reiterate that the memory of their labours will continue to remain evergreen and occupy a special place in our hearts as heroes of our dear state.
“Evidently, the last 25 years have heralded and brought in place rapid socio-economic development and physical changes to our landscape; whether it is in the educational, health, agricultural, sports, culture and tourism, infrastructural and human capacity development sectors.
“And PDP, being a responsible political party recognises and appreciates the input made by each past political leader to our present level of development; we express gratitude for the enormous resources and effort channeled towards building an egalitarian and virile society that caters to all our people. We say thank you to all our Leaders – past and present.
“In a similar fashion, we greatly commend the giant strides of the current Governor of Bayelsa state, His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri for pushing the bar of development higher to unprecedented heights. Of particular mention amongst the numerous developmental projects is the decisive construction of the three (3) senatorial roads.
“A fearsome endeavour considered to be an impossibility due to the humongous cost implication.
“By the bold step taken by the State Governor, there is a palpable sense of hope enveloping the citizenry as they begin to posit that perhaps, the sacrifice of the founding fathers was worth it as they can now see those dreams eventually becoming a reality,” the statement reads.
