Bayelsa speaker promises to work with Diri, celebrates Nigeria on anniversary celebrations

Yenagoa—The speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere has celebrated with President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Douye Diri on the occasion of the 62nd Independence Anniversary of the country and the 26th Anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.

The speaker in a statement on Saturday said Nigeria regardless of its current challenges has made appreciable progress 62 years after independence.

He added that one such progress is the recently signed Electoral Act which he believes would strengthen the country’s democratic and electoral process.

According to him, the restructuring of Nigeria along the line of equity, justice, and fairness would be the catalyst to unleashing Nigeria’s greatness.

“The recent amendment of the Electoral Act to accommodate electronic transmission of results is sure to improve the integrity of the electoral process, strengthening the health of our democracy ultimately.

“What is needed for Nigeria to realize her much avowed potential greatness is for our leaders to quickly implement the restructuring of the polity in such a way that justice, equity, and fair-play reign supreme; thus, giving every region the deserved sense of belonging which will unleash the creative potentials in every Nigerian.”

The lawmaker further said Bayelsa state is a stable polity that citizens can be proud of, describing Diri as a committed character whose passion to develop the state is unmatched.

He noted that there is a significant development in sports, infrastructure, and education as well as the improvement of social economic realities of Bayelsans under the Diri-led Prosperity.

Ingobere further opined that “the only way we can keep climbing the ladder of progress is for all well-meaning Bayelsans to identify with and deliberately support the policies and programmes of the Prosperity Administration as a people bound by our collective destiny.”

The lawmaker assured that the Bayelsa Assembly under his watch would provide the legislative support to enable the government of Bayelsa State to deliver on its mandate to Bayelsans and the residents.
