Bayelsa assembly complex worst in Nigeria, needs urgent remodelling, says APC member

Yenagoa—A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Mr. Ebinimi Omubo has opined that the Bayelsa State House of Assembly complex located in Onopa, Yenagoa, needs urgent reshaping and rebuilding.

He said this is because the assembly complex lacks “architectural expression fitting for a building housing our revered state lawmakers.”

In a statement made available to mangrovepen.ng on Friday, Omubo opined that the current state of the assembly complex cannot inspire great works in lawmakers and legislative staff.

While insisting that the complex is the worst in the whole of Nigeria, Omubo took a swipe at the former speaker of the state assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson for allegedly doing nothing regarding the revamping of the complex while in office.

“The quality of an office complex tends to affect the productivity of workers. The current state of the assembly complex cannot in any way inspire the lawmakers and legislative staff to do optimal work.

“As of today, our assembly complex seems to be the worst in Nigeria despite the huge monthly allocation we get from the Federation Account.

“It is sad that after spending eight years as a Speaker without revamping the complex to a model structure, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson is now contesting for the Senate, the statement partly reads.”

Omubo who is also the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Chief Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo urged the current leadership of the house to rebuild the complex.

He equally urged the Senator Douye Diri-led Bayelsa state government to support the state legislators in ensuring they work in a fitting, conducive environment.

He said: “The current Bayelsa Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere should see to it that the assembly complex is rebuilt as soon as possible.”

“The state government led by Senator Douye Diri should give the legislative arm the needed support to ensure the legislators undertake their statutory duties in a beautiful and conducive environment, similar to Creek Haven.

“Most of the lawmakers have traveled around the world, seeing different assembly complexes, so they should not be comfortable with the current state of the Bayelsa assembly complex. “
