One dead as Jack-up barge sinks in Escravos

Escravos—A Jack-up Barge on Friday sank at a Chevron offshore field close to Escravos in Delta State.

Pen Global Incorporated reports that the incident claimed the life of a catering staff who was alleged to have died from shock and heart failure.

The incident according to a source, occurred as a result of the failure of one of the leg engines of the jack-up barge.

“After finishing work in one of Chevron jacket well offshore, they jacked down and planned to move to another well. They decide to relax and jack up to wait for the wave to calm down a bit.

“During the process of trying to jack up, one of the leg engines failed and tilted the barge to one side. That was what happened. And as am speaking you can’t see the barge anymore, it has sunk deep into the sea,” the source claimed.
