Yenagoa—The second edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship kicked off on Saturday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State with the participation of scrabble players from around the country.
The event which is organized by the Nigerian Scrabble Federation (NSF) in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association, holds at the DSP Alamieseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Government House.
Speaking to journalists at the event, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association stated that the championship amongst other things aims to nurture upcoming scrabble champions.
“Scrabble is a game that develops the mind and intellect. And it is good we organize such events to catch them young,” he said.
On his part, Mr. Ologba Toke, National President of the Nigerian Scrabble Federation, noted that the championship is the biggest event on the calendar of the federation.
He stated that this year’s event will be remarkable because of the caliber of players that are participating.
His words, “All the best scrabble players in Nigeria have subscribed to this competition, so you should expect nothing but the best. We have participants from students to masters.
“On record, we have about 50 masters players here, which is the best we’ve had in a very long while.”
