Court okays Jonathan to contest for presidency

Yenagoa —The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa has ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2023 presidential election.

The Punch newspaper reports that the presiding judge, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen gave the judgment on Friday.

He also held that Jonathan’s right to vie for the office of president again cannot be stopped by any retroactive law.

Details later…

Meanwhile, there have been arguments from some lawyers in the country including human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana who argued that Jonathan, who was Nigerian president between 2010 and 2015, would breach constitutional term limits of two terms of eight years if he runs for the presidency and wins again.
