NIDSUG presents award to Bayelsa education commissioner

Yenagoa—The Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG), Bayelsa State Chapter on Tuesday, presented an award of honour to the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Gentle Emelah in recognition of his selfless service in bringing sustainable development in the educational sector and beyond.

The award which was presented to the commissioner in his office at the Education House, Yenagoa, also honoured him for his philanthropic, educational and human capacity development within the state and the Niger Delta region at large.

In his remarks, coordinator of the group, Comrade Isaac Oye Igor, stated that the NIDSUG decided to honour the commissioner because of the impact he has made in developing the educational sub-sector of the state.

According to him, “as leaders of the students’ community, we have come to identify with the honourable commissioner who happens to be the number one educationist in the state.

“We are here to commend and appreciate him for his impact and proactiveness in repositioning the educational sector in the state.”


Igor who commended Emelah for successfully hosting the educational summit applauded him for maintaining a solid relationship with the students’ community.

Responding, the commissioner thanked the group for honouring him with the award.

Emelah who stated that his “heart desire is to change the infrastructure of all the schools in the state,” charged the group not to derail from the path of recognizing excellence.

“This award is a springboard that will spur me to do more for the educational advancement of the state,” he said.
