Abuja—Former youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of Pioneer Youth Leaders Forum of the APC have announced the nomination of Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Sa’ad Fakai for the position of the National Organizing Secretary of the Party as against the party choice.
This position was reached after the youths forum met in Abuja on Friday just before the national convention of the APC.
They said the decision to nominate Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Sa’ad Fakai was informed by the need to enthrone competence and capacity at the helm, adding that the unilateral imposition of an unfit candidate by the state governors is detrimental to the party.
They said Sadiq Sa’ad Fakai does not only fit the bill given his former position as the APC zonal Youth leader but also hails from Kebbi State, northwest, where the position of the National Organizing Secretary is zoned.
According to reports by the Leadership newspaper, the convener of the meeting and Pioneer Youth Leader of the APC in Rivers State, Hon. Daddy K.Gidi stated that youths in the party across the country are fed up with the party governors imposing candidates to occupy youth positions in the APC.
He said after President Muhammadu Buhari accented to power in 2015 the youths were neglected in the scheme of things, adding that youths this time want to determine who represents them.
He said, “We have met in Abuja and reviewed the status of the youths of the party since 2015 and we observed that after the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari, the youths were reduced to nothing and without noticeable benefits.
“We have also met and decided that we will support the nomination of one of our own as National Organizing Secretary of the Party tomorrow.”
“We will not allow any imposition from Governors or party leaders. We have decided to invest our destiny and support in Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Sa’ad Fakai. The State Governors and party elders may have their own choice but the Youths are the soldiers and voice of the party. We have chosen our own.”
Also speaking, a pioneer youth leader of the APC in Bayelsa State, Hon. Edison Sorgwe argued that though the name of Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Sa’ad Fakai is suspected to be on the much-awaited Unity List, the decision of the Youths further shows that he is accepted and capable of galvanizing the youths the party youths nationwide.
“Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Sa’ad Fakai is the choice of the Youths of the Party. We are not aware of what the Governors say but what the Youths say. The Governors can no longer determine what we want and we are ready to show capacity in our choice,” he said.
