Yenagoa—Secretary of the Bayelsa State Center for Youth Development, Barr. Igbeta Ayebakuro has enjoined youths in the state not to be swayed by lies peddled by mischief makers concerning the relationship between Governor Douye Diri and his predecessor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
Ayebakuro, who made this known in a statement sent to mangrovepen.ng, opined that there are attempts by some individuals to unsettle the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by fragmenting its bigwigs into camps.
According to him, “the originators of these lies have continued to insinuate a dichotomy between followers of Prosperity regime and the followers of Restoration, all in an attempt to breed bad blood between the top leaders of the party.
“It is however unfortunate that some members of the PDP in the state who enjoy its successes are being consumed by their unquenchable greed and have decided that the only way to stay relevant in power is to practice sycophancy by claiming to love one leader more than himself and throw aspersion on the other.
“It is unfortunate for those elements within the party playing the divisive card because the friendship between Governor Diri, Senator Lawrence, and former Governor Dickson is not born out of a necessary political marriage, but transcends political offices presently occupied.
“It is a union that is born out of love, mutual respect and is goal-oriented.”
While admonishing youths in the state to be wary of the kind of information they assimilate from their leaders and the social media, he revealed that the only means some individuals can win elections or gain favour from the government is by causing discord.
“I am compelled by my conscience to address this matter through this means which is probably the only means necessary for now because I see a lot of Bayelsa youths falling prey to the antics of those crying wolf.
“My advice is that if there are issues there are channels to addressing them, and sometime last year the governor had warned against rumor-mongers and facebook politics.
“He stated that at all times as party faithful we should listen and wait for his signals and directions rather than the opinions of some keypad dragons that can only spew rubbish but can never give us the right direction in the grand scheme of things,” he said.
