Former Nigerian President’s family thanks Nigerians, security agents on release of relative by kidnappers

Yenagoa—The family of Mr. Jephthah Robert, a cousin of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has confirmed his release from his abductors.

It will be recalled that Jephthah was abducted around 8:40 pm on Monday, 24th January 2022, in front of his house gate at Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Jephthah, 50, was whisked away by four gunmen in black uniform, who seized him at gunpoint, forced him into their vehicle and zoomed off.

In a statement sent to mangrovepen.ng, the family revealed that Jephthah regained freedom in the early hours of today, Monday, 7th February 2022.

According to the statement, “no information on whether or not ransom was paid before he regained freedom.

“He is in good health but would see his doctor for routine medical checkup.

“Once again, we appreciate all well-meaning Nigerians who by way of calls, text messages and visits stood by us throughout the ordeal.”

The family appreciated the efforts of the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) for their determined assistance.
