Gunmen abduct NSCDC personnel, four civilians in Bayelsa community
Koluama—Gunmen suspected to be sea pirates have abducted a Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) personnel, and other four civilians working with Conoil Plc in Koluama 1, Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa State.
According to the Leadership newspaper, the workers were abducted last week Wednesday while on their way to Koluama 1 with some kitchen supplies for the company.
The abducted NSCDC personnel who was identified as Kalifa is an indigene of Igarra in Edo State.
It was gathered that the abducted officials are working for the wife of a known former Militant leader, Pastor Clifford Wilson popularly known along the creeks and waterways as Pastor Reuben.
Meanwhile, the abductors are demanding a ransom of 25million naira for their release.
An Indigene of Koluama community who spoke with a reporter on the condition of anonymity said that the abduction may be connected to some boys working with the former militant leader who was treated wrongly and sacked without pay.
A close aide to the former militant leader, who also confirmed the development, assured that efforts are being made to secure the release of the abducted persons.
Contacted on the development, the spokesman of the NSCDC, Solomon Ogbere confirmed that one Personnel of the command was abducted alongside four persons.
“It is a confirmed story. One of our officers and four civilians were kidnapped last Wednesday while heading to their location where they protect Conoil facilities.
“They were all on mufti while returning to their base when they were attacked. The investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits,” he said.
