Nembe—The lawmaker representing Brass-Nembe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, has opened up on his alleged attack by some youths in Opu-Nembe, Bayelsa State.
Mangrovepen.ng gathered that Sunny-Goli had a “scuffle” with some angry youths upon visiting the spill site of Santa Barbara oil field alongside the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva and HRM King Biobelemoye Josiah Ogbodo VIII, Amayanabo of Opu-Nembe on Wednesday.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page, the lawmaker stated that the incident was only a minor altercation.
According to him, “It was just a minor incident with some miscreants, who succeeded in snatching a bag out of my hand, which they wrongly assumed was stuffed with cash.
“It turned out, that the bag in question wasn’t mine, but that of HRM King Biobelemoye Josiah Ogbodo VIII, Amayanabo of Opu-Nembe, which I was carrying for him.
“The snatched bag only contained some documents, ATM cards and some petty cash belonging to the King and not stuffed with cash as presumed by the miscreants.”
He maintained that “those involved have been identified, apprehended and all the items lost in the course of the melee, have been recovered.
“I therefore call for calm, as there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. No harm befell me in the course of the scuffle with the miscreants.”
Meanwhile, Comrade Hello Richard,
Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Brass Clan, has strongly condemned the alleged attack on the federal lawmaker.
In a chat with our reporter on Thursday, the IYC chairman described the attack as distasteful, vile and abominable.
“It is really regrettable that a respectable individual like Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, will be attacked by miscreants.
“The attack is distasteful, vile and an abominable act and we condemn it in its entirety,” he said.
Richard, who is also Treasurer of the IYC Central Zone Clan Forum, urged youths in Brass-Nembe Federal Constituency to shun activities that are inimical to the growth of the constituency.
He also called on parents to properly educate their children and wards on the dangers of engaging in social vices.
