Yenagoa—The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Bayelsa State Government have signed a purchase agreement for regular power supply to Government House and environs in Yenagoa.
Mangrovepen.ng gathered that the agreement was signed on Wednesday inside the Executive Council Chambers of Government House in Yenagoa.
This was according to a statement by Daniel Alabrah, chief press secretary to Governor Douye Diri.
Diri who described power supply as crucial to the development of any society stated that the state is blessed with abundant gas resources which is under-utilized.
According to the governor, he will use the resources available in the state, which belongs to the people to develop the state.
He noted that power is very important in growing the economic fortunes of any society.
While appreciating the NCDMB management and its partners in making the agreement possible, Diri also called on the private sector investors to explore the natural gas abundant in the state.
In his words: “My administration is committed to providing power to people of the state. One of the first creations of God was light. So, we are delighted to talk about power.
“We have taken bold steps and today is one of the manifestations with this agreement. I call on private investors to explore the abundance of gas resources in the state.
“We are ready to partner with them. My administration is poised to provide power to light up Bayelsa State.
“I commend my brother, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, for his sagacity and commitment to impact on the environment of his organisation.
“Let me also appreciate the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and other partners that made this possible. We must pay for power. Even in Freetown, nothing is free.”
Speaking at the ceremony, the NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Wabote, stated that the event marked the formal execution of the power purchase project and described the agreement as a major milestone.
He stated that with the agreement Bayelsa state stands to enjoy an uninterrupted power supply.
It will be recalled that the NCDMB operates a 10-megawatt gas-powered independent plant located at Elebele in Ogbia local government area of the state.
