Obogoro—The ecological devastation of Ogbogoro community in Yenagoa Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, occasioned by a deadly erosion has taken a new turn.
In a chat with our reporter, football coach turned environmental activist, Ada Gwegwe, revealed that the recent erosion that took place on Saturday, 31 July, 2021, washed away almost ten plots of land in the community.
According to him, “The issue is that the community is crying for help. You know we have been complaining about this for some time, but to no avail.
“When the governor came, he made some promises and even said a contract has been awarded for temporary solution for canalization.
“But as I speak to you on Saturday we have lost some buildings to the erosion, without rain, without flood. We lost almost ten plots of land.
“So our fear is that, if nothing is done and the rain starts everyday, what will be our fate?” he asked.
Gwegwe, who is also an indigene of the community, revealed that the community has sent messages to the government to come to their aid.
“We have gone on radio, we have put it on the social media platforms, we have sent a message to the ministry of environment to inform them of the present situation, which I know the government is aware of,” he stated.
