Tokyo—Bayelsa born Blessing Oborodudu, has qualified for the semi-finals of women’s wrestling freestyle 68kg event at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Punch Newspaper reports.
Oborodudu, who hails from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, defeated Elis Manolova from Azerbaijan 13-2 and Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan in the quarter finals.
She is set to face Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold in the semi-finals.
Last year, Oborodudu defeated Rihem Ayari of Tunisia by 10-0 to win her 10th African title in the African Wrestling Championship in Algiers.
Before going to the Olympics, Oborududu and some other athletes had received financial backing from the Bayelsa State government ahead of the competition in Tokyo, Japan.
