INC chides lawmakers who rejected e-transmission of results

Yenagoa—Professor Benjamin Okaba, President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), has stated that those who want the country backward and unworkable are behind the rejection of electronic transmission of election results, Punchng.com reports.

Professor Okaba who made this known in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital at the formal opening of the office of the National Spokesman of Ijaw Youth council, Worldwide, stressed that opposing amendment of the bill is anti-democratic.

He added that fraudulent electoral process is one of the challenges affecting the progress of the country.

According to him, “Nigerians know that the day the votes of the people count and the choices of the people matter, a lot of things will change in this country and the key to having that is to have a transparent electoral process.

“But if people who got voted and had the mandate to change things for better in this country still feel that we should go analog, retrogressive; it is very pathetic.

“For me, it is another way of saying that many of the leaders are not good leaders in the first place because they are not prepared to lead this country to greatness.

“They are only there to serve their selfish purposes, their personal aggrandisement, personal interests and not national interest,” he said.

He admonished leaders in the country to learn from the INC election, which saw the electronic transmission of election results.

While calling for unity among Ijaws, the INC President pointed out that Nigeria is on the edge of a cliff, because of the impunity shown by enemies of the country.
