Yenagoa—Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Comr. Ebilade Ekerefe has stated the need for Ijaw youths to be tech-savvy, adding that the future of the Ijaw nation lies in Information and Communications Technology, ICT.
Ebilade, who made this known via an exclusive chat with Mangrovepen.ng on Wednesday, advised Ijaw youths “to learn various digital skills in the tech industry because they are learnable and lucrative as well.”
He noted that his office would help to improve the capacities of as many Ijaw youths as it can in the area of ICT, hinting that, a state-of-the-art training center for willing youths has already been made available.
According to him, “I made a commitment that I will not only be a spokesman who will only be reacting to issues bothering on Ijaw people, but also a spokesman who will go outside the box to freely build the capacities of our youths and also empower them.
“The small ICT training institute we have set up is a fulfillment of that commitment and I am grateful to God for making it possible.
“This twelve-seater capacity training center will be able to train 36 Ijaw youths in various ICT skills free of charge in every three months under my watch.”
The IYC spokesman called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to partner with his office to bring his vision to fruition.
“We are looking for support especially in the area of computers. We need at least twenty computer systems to start the training that seeks to prepare our brothers and sisters to be more productive in the digital world.
“The beneficiaries of the programme will be certified by a reputable firm who are in joint partnership with us to empower Ijaw youths and make them self-reliant,” Ebilade stated.
