Remain focused and follow your talent, Nigerian first home-based Olympic rower advises youths

Lagos—Esther Tamaraebi Toko, Arogbo-Ijaw-born rowing champion has advised youths to be focused and follow their talents with passion.

In an exclusive interview with Mangrovepen.ng on Monday, the decorated athlete pointed out that she was “initially participating in canoeing, but later discovered that I love rowing and have a lot of passion for it.”

According to her, “I live in Lagos state, I grew up in Lagos, and I started sports in 2014.”

She stated that she hopes to be better in her performance to enable her to emerge victorious in the Olympics.

“I want to become a champion next coming year; I will be better than this.”

Esther Tamaraebi Toko, who was born on March 28, 2000, hails from Akpata Community in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

She is set to represent Nigeria in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as the first home-based Olympic rower.

She has represented Nigeria in various competitions, including the 13th African Rowing Championships and the African Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Tunisia, 2019.
