NDDC: Forensic Audit Should not be an Excuse to Delay Constitution of Management Board

YENAGOA – A legal practitioner, Somina Johnbull, has urged the Federal Government to constitute the Management Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), saying it is long overdue.

He noted that the ongoing forensic audit in the NDDC “should not be a ground for the refusal to constitute the Board.”

He added that the audit relates to the past and would not hinder the Board from functioning.

In an interview with Mangrovepen.ng on Tuesday, Somina condemned the ongoing protest organized by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) which has caused traffic gridlock especially at the east-west road and the closure of various NDDC offices in the region.

“While I do not support the methodology adopted by the IYC to press home their call for the constitution of the NDDC, the obstruction of road travel and sealing up of NDDC offices, is an indicator of civil disobedience, which would be condemned,” he said.

While stating that the tensed security situation of the country is sad, the lawyer averred that it is a mixture of politics, leadership failure and unaddressed feeling of exclusion by some Nigerians.

He, therefore, advised the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to “address the genuine concerns of lopsided appointments in leadership positions and stop favouring a particular tribe in economic expansion.”

He further urged the government to “espouse Pan-Nigerian policies backed up with actions and deal with subversive elements in the country as well.”
