Yenagoa—The Federated Correspondents Chapel (FCC) of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has yesterday inaugurated a new executive council after a keenly contested election.
Tife Owolabi of Reuters who pulled eleven votes out of twenty votes cast beat his closest opponent, Samuel Eseh of Business Day to emerge the new Chairman of the chapel.
Pauline Onyibe of the New Telegraph Newspaper emerged the secretary unopposed while Emem Idio of Vanguard Newspaper also emerged unopposed as the treasurer of the chapel.
In his acceptance speech, Owolabi promised to run an all-inclusive regime, assuring that he would give his best in his newly elected role.
“I believe that we are one. It was not a contest. I promise to do my best. It is going to be an all-inclusive government. We will continue to do our best. So expect nothing less.”
Inaugurating the new executive council, the chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists Bayelsa chapter, Samuel Numonengi thanked the chapel for their peaceful disposition and display of maturity during the election, with a charge to remain unite going forward.
He said “Another thing is not just to win an election. During the election, a group will be split into two. After the election, there should be no group. We all become one again. So don’t say some people supported you, some people did not.
“For you to lead, you need the support of everybody if you want to succeed. I want to urge you, chairman, to carry everybody along including your exco because if your exco gives you a hundred percent backing, you are covered.
“For the executive members, if you have any idea, let the chairman know because, in the end, the glory will go to all of you. ”
In his vote of thanks, the secretary of the electoral committee Mike Tayese commended all the members for their participation and peaceful disposition during the election.
