Read reason why Senate is probing Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the World Cup

Abuja—The Senate has started a probe into the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Super Eagles had a two-legged world cup playoff tie with their West African neighbours Ghana with who they played a 0-0 stalemate in Kumasi, Ghana in the first leg and drew 1-1 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja in the return tie.

The Black Stars of Ghana based on the away goal rule clinched the ticket to the world cup at the expense of Nigeria.

However, a week later, the Senate says it is investigating the failure to qualify despite the huge funds put into the exercise by the government and corporate bodies.

According to reports by Channels TV, this was made known during Tuesday’s plenary.

It is reported that the Red Chamber of the National Assembly will also investigate the vandalism of the facilities at the MKO Abiola Stadium by irate football fans in Abuja in the aftermath of Nigeria’s loss to Ghana.

It has directed its commuter on sports to invite the NFF, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, as well as those involved in maintaining the stadium to ascertain the extent of damage to the stadium.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked the Super Eagles’ technical crew less than two days after the return tie on Tuesday, 29 March.
