Exclusive: How expatriate working in Bayelsa was abducted and released

Yenagoa—More details have emerged following the abduction and rescue of an expatriate working with a construction company on the Igbedi road project in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State on Saturday.

In an exclusive interview with mangrovepen.ng, a source close to the abducted expatriate, who wish to remain anonymous, revealed that the expatriate did not sustain any bullet wound during the sporadic shooting because he was shielded by the company’s bulletproof car.

According to him, upon abducting the expatriate, “the kidnappers escaped through the river and amidst their jubilation, they called their boss to inform him of their success.

“But unfortunately for them, an Agip security patrol team apprehended them along the waterways before the joint security formations arrested the situation.

“After then, the Navy took our staff to Agip camp, where they arranged a chopper to Port Harcourt before they received a call from Government House, Yenagoa to take him there.”

While thanking God for saving the life of the abducted staff, the source also appreciated the swift response of the military.

Earlier, the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police Force advised health workers and trado-medical practitioners popularly known as native doctors not to treat gunshot wound victims without alerting the Police.

Asinim Butswat, spokesman of the state police command gave the advice in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, the advice has become imperative following the recent gun battle between security operatives and kidnappers along the Ogobiri waterways.
