It’s my dream to be Miss World like Agbani Darego, says newly-crowned Miss Bayelsa

Perhaps, when the renowned beauty queen, Agbani Darego, was crowned the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria as well as Miss World in 2001, she did not know her exploits would inspire several other girls.

The recently crowned Miss Bayelsa, Biobelemoye Ghandi, happens to be one of those inspired by the ex-beauty queen (Agbani Darego).

In an interview with Mangrove Pen, Ghandi disclosed that she ventured into beauty pageant to be celebrated like Agbani.

In her words: “Three years ago, I participated in the Miss Brass beauty contest, which had contestants from my local government area.

“I didn’t know how to catwalk or dance; the whole thing was new to me then. However, I won the competition through observation, self-discipline and with the grace of God.

“Being involved in beauty pageants has exposed me a lot. I have met people from different backgrounds and this has shaped my mind positively too.

“I desire to be on the international stage and be crowned Miss World like my role model, Agbani Darego.”

The 300 level student of Niger Delta University hinted that she is also a makeup artist; noting that beautifying people is a side hustle that foots her bills.

Ghandi revealed that she has never experienced any form of sexual molestation and the likes from anyone in all the beauty contests she has participated in.

“I have never been sexually molested. If a man asks you out and you refuse his advances he will stop. So I believe one can be a beauty queen and still be chaste.

“You may not have such experience if you are busy, because you will not put yourself in any vulnerable situation for anyone to molest you sexually. I believe it’s only idle girls without self-esteem that sell their body just for a crown,” expressed Ghandi.”

“If people are given vocational and entrepreneurial skills at an early age, ” adds Ghandi, “they will be more responsible and the economy of the state would get working for the better.”

The 20yrs old beauty queen advised girls not to opt for prostitution as a means of livelihood, averring that only the fear of God, hard work and diligence can make for real, lasting success.
