Tonbara Yebufura

In Nigeria, Christmas comes with a lot of feasting. Just like in America, where the slaugthering of turkey is synonymous with Thanksgiving.
You hardly see a household in Nigeria that doesn’t eat chicken on Christmas day.

Unfortunately, the economic situation in the country has caused an upsurge in the price of food items(Chicken inclusive).

A recent news publication by Business Day quoted livestock farmers under the auspices of the Poultry Association of Nigerian (PAN), saying one chicken may be sold for about ₦10,000 due to the prevailing economic situation in the country.

This revelation has left many Nigerians perplexed and demoralized, because they will not be able to afford it.

In this article, i will reveal why you should ditch chicken for fish and still get value for money and utmost satisfaction.

*1. GENETIC MODIFICATION:* Many commercially grown chickens are fed growth hormones and antibiotics, which scientists say have negative implications on human health. Unlike fish that is usually sourced naturally and feeds on organic products.

*2. OMEGA 3:* Fish has more deposit of Omega 3 acids, which help to lower blood pressure and manage heart disease than chicken.

*3. PURE PROTEIN:* Unlike Chicken with high concentration of calories and fat, fish such as tuna is very low in calories and fat, which give it the tag of an almost pure protein food.

4. *LESS EXPENSIVE* In terms of cost, chicken is more expensive than fish. On the average, one kilogram of chicken is sold for about ₦1,800, while fish (tuna) is sold at ₦1,200.

Take the adventurous route, get value for money, spice up your Christmas by consuming fish in place of chicken.
