We donated N350m worth of relief materials as promised, Azikel Group replies Bayelsa commissioner

Yenagoa—Management of Azikel Group has debunked claims by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Environment and Chairman, Flood Mitigation Committee, Iselema Gbaranbiri that the state government received relief materials worth N57.7m from its President, Dr. Eruani Godbless Azibapu (CFR) against the earlier promise of providing relief materials worth N350m to victims of the flood disaster.

It will be recalled that Gbaranbiri in a live radio programme on Tuesday, disclosed that the committee has received materials worth N57.5m as against the earlier promise by the Azikel Group President to donate relief materials worth N350m.

He called on the company to fulfill its promise as it would go a long way in providing succor for Bayelsans during this post-flood era.

Reacting to the claims of the commissioner, the organization in a statement by its media team, stated that its President and Azikel Group did not only fulfill its pledge of donating goods and relief materials worth N350m, but it surpassed its expected voluntary financial commitment of procuring the relief materials and its attendant logistic challenges; which also attracted huge financial commitment.

The statement reads in part:

“It should be noted that immediately after the Group President visited the Governor of Bayelsa State, he purchased mattresses which were urgently needed and was intended to be distributed to the various Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and recently the Group President handed over 40,000 mini rice bags to the government and people of Bayelsa State.

“It is therefore uncharitable for the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Chairman, Flood Mitigation Committee to wilfully and wrongly assert that Dr. Eruani Godbless Azibapu and Azikel Group only provided relief materials worth N57.7m.

“In actual fact, the said relief materials and goods provided by the President of Azikel Group exceeded N460m.

“Furthermore, let it be known that the intention of this clarification is not to join issues with the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Chairman, Flood Mitigation Committee, Mr. Iselema Gbaranbiri but to set the records straight for Bayelsans and posterity.

“The Group President is not interested in engaging in unnecessary media cross-fire or needless grandstanding with any group, individual, or institutions of government.”

According to the statement, “as a renowned philanthropist and youngest CFR in the federation, the goal and vision of the Group President is the pursuit of an aggressive, calculated and a silent industrial revolution of Bayelsa State and his drive and passion for more Bayelsans to be wealth creators.”

The statement added that Eruani is deeply committed to doing more to alleviate the plight and to provide succour to Bayelsans, now and even in the future.
